Concerts in aid of homeless:

Paradox Orchestra is hosting a series of concerts for charitable causes across Yorkshire, including two at Sheffield Cathedral to raise funds for homeless people in the city. The orchestra will play hits from Pink Floyd on the evenings of May 16, and Fleetwood Mac on July 12. The concerts are part of the cathedral’s commitment to being a “place for all”, bringing communities together with shared cultural events. The orchestra has forged a reputation for staging concerts that put a classical twist on rock, pop, R&B, drum and bass and dance hits. Many of the musicians are graduates of Leeds Conservatoire and have played with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Louis Tomlinson, Marc Almond and Little Mix. The concerts will raise funds for the Cathedral Archer Project, which supports the homeless in Sheffield.

Paid residency for theatre designer:

Leeds Playhouse, in partnership with Leeds theatre company Tutti Frutti Productions and supported by the Jerwood Foundation, is offering a year-long paid placement for an early-career Yorkshire-based theatre designer. In 2020-21 Bradford-based designer Warda Abbasi was awarded the residency and last year West Yorkshire theatre designer Delicia Sorhaindo became Jerwood resident designer. As her 12 months in the role draws to a close, the theatre is seeking its 2024-25 Jerwood resident designer. The placement begins in July and the deadline for applications is 10am on May 13.

Museums chief moves on:

The chief executive of Scarborough Museums and Galleries (SMG), Andrew Clay, is leaving to take up a new role as general manager of Sea Life Scarborough. Mr Clay moved to Scarborough in 2007 to become director at the newly created Woodend Creative Industries Centre. In 2017, he also became chief executive of Scarborough Museums Trust, which ran Scarborough Art Gallery and the Rotunda Museum, with the trust and Woodend merging to become Scarborough Museums and Galleries. Trustees at SMG are seeking a new chief executive, but in the meantime the position will be filled by Malton-based heritage professional Sarah Oswald on an interim basis.
