The three-part series showing how spies and traitors played a dangerous game in the 1980s continues. With double agent Oleg Gordievsky’s help, Britain identifies Mikhail Gorbachev as a possible new contender for Soviet leader. Could he be the ticket to better relations between East and West? Despite fragile steps towards diplomacy, the process is threatened by the vested interests of those spies still stuck in the old world order. Meanwhile, the CIA wants to know who Britain’s superspy is, but their head of Soviet counterint­elligence, Aldrich Ames, is becoming disillusio­ned. He turns traitor for a paltry sum and shortly afterwards, Gordievsky is summoned back to Russia - and is in certain danger.
