The Young Offenders BBC1, 9.30pm

After a break of several years, the much-loved Cork-set sitcom returned last week; it transported us immediately back into the bizarre, chaotic and rather immature world of best friends Conor and Jock, so much so it felt as if they’d never been away. This week, Conor realises his days of being carefree are over - he’s a man now, so must pay his own way. He lands a job working alongside his mother Mairead at the fishmonger’s - but is it really the role for him? He’s also likely to be distracted by Gavin Madigan, the love rival who is now engaged to his old flame Linda. He tries to goad Conor into taking his Leaving Cert exam - a matter that may or may not make Mairead feel proud once the results come through.

Hidden Treasures of the National Trust BBC2, 9pm

The latest episode focuses on the teams at Cliveden House in Berkshire and Polesden Lacey in Surrey, historic houses that have played pivotal roles in society for centuries. Cliveden’s most famous former resident is, arguably, Nancy Astor, who became the first female MP to take up her seat in Parliament. A portrait of her by John Singer Sargent hangs in the house, but it’s in desperate need of restoration, a process that may reveal something not only about the painting, but about its sitter too. Over in Surrey, there’s a chance to learn more about the renovations carried out a century ago by brewing heir Margaret Greville. She was also a collector of Faberge eggs, and keeping them in good condition is a delicate business.
