‘We all loved Mike. He was full of life, crazy ideas and enthusiasm’

TRIBUTES FOR Mike Wiand have been flooding in on Facebook.

Michael ‘Spike’ Scott, who used to be in a Leeds band called East of Java, said: “We all loved Mike. Full of life, crazy ideas and enthusiasm. He didn’t always get our Yorkshire sense of humour, but he tried!

“He gave us a lot if space while he nurtured and mentored us. We sent him a demo and pretty soon we were signed up. He arranged our first proper gig – at The Warehouse of course – and managed to get four top record company execs up to Leeds to see us. No mean feat. From that gig we got signed to RCA.”

John Phillips added: “I remember Mike so well. He was always so gracious and supportive of my embryonic hi-tech music endeavours. An irreplaceable era has passed.”

Sara Langford said simply: “I am what I am today because of you and your fantastic life,” Tia Fitzgerald told Mr Wiand’s Mike’s son ‘Dino’ that the biography he posted on Facebook is ‘lovely’. She added: “Your father would be so very proud of how you remembered his many groundbreaking accomplishments.”

Allan Pargeter concluded: “RIP Michael. Truly a man who fulfilled his dreams and aspirations.”
