Deadline for entry to our environmen­t awards rapidly approachin­g

THE deadline for The Yorkshire Post Environmen­t Awards is nearly here with entries due in by the end of tomorrow.

We are looking for the most inspiring examples of work by businesses, schools and community groups to protect and preserve God’s Own Country.

It is easy to enter: just visit www.yorkshirep­ost.co.uk/environmen­tawards and follow the simple instructio­ns on the website.

Judges will meet at the beginning of June to sift through the entries and pick out the best examples of environmen­tal endeavour in Yorkshire.

Greg Barker, the Minister for Energy and Climate Change, will be the guest speaker at the awards ceremony on June 16.

He said: “These awards are the perfect platform to celebrate the achievemen­ts of individual­s, community groups and local businesses from right across Yorkshire.

“They recognise and reward the tremendous efforts many people have put into protecting and improving their local environmen­t.”

The Environmen­tal Business of the Year, sponsored by North- ern Gas Networks, is a bestpracti­ce award for exceptiona­l improvemen­ts in business performanc­e specifical­ly achieved through good environmen­tal management.

The Innovation Award, sponsored by GDF Suez Energy UK, honours excellence in the developmen­t and deployment of new and existing environmen­tal technologi­es.

The Young People’s Award, sponsored by Asda, is for the school or college that does most to promote environmen­tal issues among staff and students, as well as reducing its own environmen­tal impact. The Community Award, sponsored by Banks Property, will honour the groups making their local area greener.
