Vandals go on wrecking spree after wedding guests park at village green
VANDALS caused thousands of pounds of damage to a group of cars in North Yorkshire whilst their owners were celebrating a wedding.
Guests were celebrating at the Crown Inn in Roecliffe, near Boroughbridge, as vandals scratched up to 15 cars parked outside on Saturday.
The vehicles were parked around the nearby green between 7.45pm and 10.30pm when the attack took place, with family and friends at the wedding targeted.
Angela Nicholson, the bride’s mother, said the wrecking spree ruined what should have been the perfect day.
“Our niece was going home when we first realised what had happened. She came back in and said that the cars parked outside had been scratched,” she said.
“They’d been attacked with a Stanley knife or a screwdriver. Everybody was so upset afterwards and a lot of the cars which were damaged were new. It’s going to be a lot of money to repair them because they’ve scratched all over the cars.
“It really put a dampener on such a special day and the next morning was very upsetting. We don’t know if it was somebody wanting to ruin the day or maybe people who don’t like it when cars park on the green.”
Police are conducting enquiries and are requesting the public’s assistance to help determine the full circumstances.
