A YORKSHIRE seaside guest house has been named the third best in the world, according to travel review website TripAdvisor.

South Lodge Guest House in Bridlington beat competition from across the globe to win the accolade in the 2017 Travellers’ Choice awards.

Based on the quality and quantity of traveller reviews, the guest house was among five English venues listed in the top ten, with Bindon Bottom B&B in Dorset scooping first prize.

According to its website, South Lodge can be found “on the quiet side of Bridlington”, on a treelined road 300 yards from the beach. It promises a “fantastic breakfast to set you up for the day” after a stay in one its en suite rooms.

Its listing on TripAdvisor boasts an average score of the full five stars from 466 reviews. One reviewer called it “The Ritz of Bridlington,” adding: “From the cup of coffee or tea and biscuits on arrival to settling the account. The experience was excellent.”

VisitEngland chief executive Sally Balcombe said: “It is fantastic news that five of England’s B&Bs are rated by travellers in the top 10 globally, including the top spot. This continues the upward trend we’ve seen in recent years demonstrating that our tourism accommodation and service is not only exceeding customer expectations but up there competing with the world’s very best.”

As well as Bindon Bottom and South Lodge guest houses, The Cedar House Inn in Florida, The Welsh Hills Inn in Ohio and Swallows Rest B&B in Brigstock, Northamptonshire, made up the rest of the top five in the awards.
