Wagner happy to accept award on behalf of ‘special club’ Town

-

DAVID WAGNER insists his second manager of the month award in the Championship belongs to everyone at Huddersfield Town.

The Terriers enjoyed a hugely impressive February, collecting 16 points from six games and earning an FA Cup fifth round replay against Manchester City, to ensure their German head coach received further recognition for the tremendous job he is doing at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Ahead of taking his side to Brentford tomorrow, Wagner said: “As was the case in August, I only accept the February manager of the month award on behalf of every player, member of staff and everyone else connected with this special club, Huddersfield Town.

“We enjoyed such good results because of the excellent, consistent level of performance from every player in the squad. That happens because of selfbelief, trust in each other and hard work every day at the training ground.

“I am very proud of everyone in this group; it is a pleasure to work with this squad and staff.”

Chair of the judging panel, George Burley, added: “Huddersfield Town have had an exceptional February, which has given them a realistic chance of gaining automatic promotion.

“David has moulded the team to play a very expansive style of football which is attractive and exciting to watch.”

Billy Sharp made it a Yorkshire double in the February awards by being named League One’s player of the month.

Sheffield United’s captain netted five times in as many games to earn glowing praise from manager Chris Wilder.

“Billy epitomises the spirit we have at the club and although it is a personal award I’m sure he will be the first to say it is a team effort,” said the Blades chief. “His goals have been invaluable for us, not just in February, but throughout the season.”
