Foodies to make a splash at seaside festival
TOP CHEFS have gathered together to launch the Scarborough Food and Drink Festival, which will take place alongside the P1 Powerboat racing event in September.
The powerboats will be back at the resort from September 2-3 and there will also be a celebration of the area’s food and drink happening near the lifeboat house. The festival will feature cookery demonstrations and a number of stalls selling local produce.
It has been organised by the The Yorkshire Post and
Scarborough News events teams alongside Scarborough Council and Welcome to Yorkshire.
Consultant chef Steph Moon, who will compere the event, said: “I’m very excited to be involved. It’s a brand new thing for Scarborough and it’s a free event, so I’d encourage everyone to come along.”
Michelin-starred chef Andrew Pern, of the Star at Harome, said: “I was born in Whitby so the seaside is close to my heart.
“We have a great pantry of food in the North Sea which is right on our doorstep.
“We want to fly the flag for Yorkshire and to do things like this is a great privilege.”
Graham Stork, of GWS Seafoods, who promotes local products as part of his work, said: “We’re trying to promote the use of lobster and crab from our own shores. The fresher the product, the better the taste.”
Ed Dodson, of Yorkshire Coast College, said: “It’s really nice to be asked to be involved and is great for our students.”
Jeremy Hollingsworth, of Jeremy’s restaurant, said he was really looking forward to giving a demonstration at the event.
He added: “The powerboats bring a lot of people to the area so it should be a busy weekend.”
Janet Deacon, area director for Welcome to Yorkshire and tourism manager for Scarborough Council, said: “Events such as this and the Tour de Yorkshire are critical in bringing visitors to the area and ensuring the Yorkshire coast retains its reputation for firstclass year-round events”.
