Coldplay, Pulp, Welch and Numan honoured
COLDPLAY, FLORENCE Welch, Pulp and Gary Numan were honoured last night at the Ivor Novello Awards.
Grime artist Skepta was named songwriter of the year at the ceremony at the Grosvenor House in London.
Florence And The Machine frontwoman Welch was handed the international achievement prize and dedicated the award to her father, who drove her band across Europe during their first overseas tour when they were supporting MGMT.
She said: “We had absolutely no money and my dad took us in a Sundance campervan and they must have thought we were totally mad turning up with all the pots and pans rattling.” Michael Kiwanuka’s Black Man
In A White World, which he co-wrote with Dean Josiah Cover, beat competition from Laura Mvula and Mystery Jets to be named best song musically and lyrically.
The Album Award went to Laura Mvula, the PRS for Music Most Performed Work was given to Hymn For The Weekend by Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion and Chris Martin of Coldplay, and the Best Original Film Score was won by Kubo And The Two Strings, by Dario Marianelli.
The Outstanding Song Collection went to Pulp whose members Jarvis Cocker, Nick Banks, Steve Mackey and Russell Senior are all from South Yorkshire.
The Ivors Inspiration Award went to Gary Numan for being a pioneer of electronic music.
