Public gets say on plan for city’s new road

-

MASS CONSULTATIONS about the proposed East Leeds Orbital Road are about to begin.

There will be five events in the Whinmoor, Swarcliffe, Cross Gates and surrounding areas between July 24 and 28. The scheme has now been submitted to Leeds City Council’s Planning Authority for approval. The new consultations with residents are being publicised by ward councillors Peter Gruen and Pauleen Grahame.

Coun Gruen said: “This is a very important time in the life of this project.

“A tremendous amount of work has already been invested in bringing the scheme to this stage. Now the project takes on a reality all of its own.

“At this key point when the council decides whether to approve the application, Coun Grahame and I are determined that as many people as possible from our neighbourhoods get involved in these proposals.”

Coun Grahame added: “We have asked for as many consultation points as possible along the proposed route because we want to ensure that all of us in East Leeds get the best deal for us locally.”

The consultation timetable is as follows: Monday, July 24 at Wellington Hill Residents’ Association from 3.30pm to 6pm; Tuesday, July 25 at Cross Gates Methodist Church from 3.30pm to 8pm; Wednesday, July 26 at Fieldhead Carr Community Centre in Whinmoor between 3.30pm to 8pm; Thursday, July 27 at Scholes St Philip’s Church between 3.30pm to 8pm; Friday, July 28 at Swarcliffe Community Centre between 3.30pm and 6pm.
