Charity wants company bosses to sleep rough to raise cash for homeless

-

HOMELESS CHARITY CEO Sleepout is calling on Leeds business executives to swap the board room for a sleeping bag to raise sponsorship for those without a home.

This year’s event, the first of its kind to happen in Leeds, will raise funds for the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and St George’s Crypt, a charity in Leeds working with the homeless, the vulnerable and those suffering from addiction.

It will take place at Headingley Stadium on October 30. Full details can be found at www.ceosleepoutuk.com.

CEO Sleepout has also supported Depaul UK, a national youth charity which runs Leeds Nightstop, a service which aims to help 16-25-year-olds who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

CEO Sleepout founder Andy Preston said: “We’re really excited to be bringing CEO Sleepout to Leeds.

“Homelessness is a big problem in Leeds and in cities across the North, so I am sure the money we will raise will make a real difference in helping local people who are sleeping rough or at risk of it.

“I would like to thank Leeds Rhinos for hosting us at Headingley; their good works in the local community are well known. Yorkshire folk have a well-deserved reputation for their generosity, and I have no doubt many will volunteer to sleep out, and lots more generously sponsor those who do.”

St George’s Crypt became a charity after the Second World War when the crypt of St George’s church was used as an air raid shelter.

“After the war ended it was decided to keep it in use for the vulnerable of the city.”
