Churchill fellowship sends seven around world
SEVEN PEOPLE from Yorkshire have been awarded Churchill fellowships, offering them the opportunity to travel the world to study topical issues.
The winners will receive grants of £46,000 and travel to 12 countries. Julia Weston, chief executive of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, said: “Churchill Fellows search the world for ways to improve their communities and professions.
“This life-changing opportunity is open to everyone, with our next round of grants opening on April 27.”
The winners include Cathryn Britton from York who will go to Australia and New Zealand to explore midwifery education.
Lorna Gledhill, of Leeds, will go to Germany, Greece, Spain and the Netherlands to explore refugee integration.
Adnan Ali Khan, from Leeds, will go to Norway and Sweden to explore opportunities for exoffenders and Chantelle Tomlinson, from Sheffield, will go to Canada and Japan to investigate treatment of premature babies.
Caroline Gore-Booth, of Hull, will go to Canada and America to look at support for disadvantaged people.
Andrew Whitaker, of Leeds, will go to America to study education. And Abdullah Geelah, of Sheffield, will go to Canada, South Africa and the America to explore mosques in shaping identities among western Muslims.
