Showcase of region’s digital strengths wins praise

A FESTIVAL celebratin­g and championin­g the region’s digital strengths has concluded, with organisers being praised for their efforts.

The Leeds Digital Festival added an extra week to this year’s edition. The fortnight of events covered everything from the impact of digital on manufactur­ing to women in technology.

The festival also hosted an awards ceremony honouring the leading lights of the sector in the region.

At the ceremony, a special award was also presented to Stuart Clarke, director of Leeds Digital Festival, in recognitio­n of his hard work and achievemen­ts in organising the event.

Andrew Maeer, managing director of Amsource Technology and a sponsor of the awards, said: “There’s no denying Leeds’s tech scene is become a force to be reckoned with and last night proved why, with all the innovation in this city coming together under one roof.

“Stuart’s determinat­ion, vision and developmen­t of the Leeds Digital Festival makes him a worth worthy winner of our special recognitio­n award.”

The festival took on an open platform format allowing any company to get involved.

Mr Clarke said: “We’ve been overwhelme­d by the support of the digital sector in Leeds for this year’s Leeds Digital Festival.

“With 160 events covering every aspect from fintech to medtech, coding to careers, we’re able to showcase the best of the city.”

Matthew Skelton, head of consulting at Conflux, helped open the festival with a workshop on manufactur­ers adopting technology.

He said: “I think Leeds Digital Festival is an amazing event. There’s so much happening.

“It’s great to be a part of the event. We’ve had a lot of interest from many different organisati­ons.”
