Swedish defender Isherwood swaps Bayern for Bradford

- LEON WOBSCHALL

MANAGERLESS Bradford City have signed Bayern Munich reserve defender Thomas Isherwood on a two-year deal.

The arrival of the 20-year-old former Sweden Under-19 international, who had a trial with Rangers at the end of last season, is City’s third signing of the close season following the previous captures of full-back Joe Riley and midfielder Josh Wright.

Barnsley academy manager Paul Harsley has joined Premier League champions Manchester City as their new elite development squad manager.

The former Scunthorpe United, Macclesfield Town and Port Vale midfielder, 40, who joined the Reds as senior professional development coach in October 2016, took charge of the first team in a caretaker role following the department of Paul Heckingbottom to Leeds United in February.

Harsley was in the dug-out for the home derby draw with Sheffield Wednesday on February 10 before reverting to his former role following the arrival of Jose Morais.

Meanwhile, former Wolves keeper and Sky Sports pundit Matt Murray has left the club.

Murray joined the club’s academy staff last August and also worked alongside Harsley in his brief stint in temporary charge.

Ex-Leeds and Barnsley head of sports science Nathan Winder has been appointed as the new fitness coach at Ipswich Town.

Harrogate Town striker Jake Wright has joined York City on a two-year deal – for his second spell at the club.

Rotherham United midfielder Ben Wiles, 19, has penned a new one-year extension with the club.

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann says he has decided on his future, but the Frenchman has refused to say whether he will leave the club this summer.

Ongoing speculation is linking him with a move to Spanish champions Barcelona. HUDDERSFIELD TOWN have made Stoke City winger Ramadan Sobhi their third new arrival of the summer.

The 21-year-old, part of Egypt’s World Cup squad, has signed a three-year contract at the John Smith’s Stadium after agreement was reached over a fee that is believed to be in the region of £5.7m. Town have the option to extend the deal by a further 12 months.

Sobhi joins Terence Kongolo and Ben Hamer in being brought to West Yorkshire as head coach David Wagner, fresh from signing his own extended new contract, continues to build for next season.

“I am very happy that we will be able to welcome Ramadan Sobhi to Huddersfield Town,” said the Terriers’ chief.

“He is a real talent and has achieved a lot for a player who is only 21 years old, playing over 20 times for his country ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

“Just as Jonas Lössl, Elias Kachunga and Laurent Depoitre did, Ramadan will join our club on the back of a challenging season. However, he already has a lot of the qualities that we look for in our ‘Terriers Identity’. He is skilful, direct and very quickthinking. He still has a lot of space to improve too, which is very exciting.

“We are looking forward to working hard with Ramadan on the training pitch to give him every chance of success at Huddersfield Town.”

Sobhi, part of the Stoke side relegated from the Premier League last season, arrived in England two years ago as one of the hottest young properties in North Africa and he will be hoping Wagner can unlock that potential.

The Football Association will continue to stage England matches on the road with a September friendly against Switzerland set for Leicester’s King Power Stadium.
