Landslip-hit road partially reopened
A MAJOR route in North Yorkshire was partially reopened to traffic yesterday more than a month after it was closed due to fears of a landslip.
The A59 at Kex Gill had been closed since May 30 after movement was detected in the carriageway.
Contractors for North Yorkshire County Council have been working to widen the road towards the rock wall, as well as stabilising the wall below it.
North Yorkshire County Council confirmed that the road, which links Harrogate with Skipton, had yesterday reopened to single-file traffic under traffic-light control. A spokeswoman said the road will continue to be monitored daily at Kex Gill over the coming weeks for any further movement.
The council is working on a permanent solution to prevent landslips in the area, which may require more road closures.
