Victory in fight to halt 24-hour potato scheme

-

RESIDENTS HAVE expressed their relief after plans to turn a “horrendously noisy” potato plant into a 24-hour operation were rejected by councillors.

The proposal by Woodmansey-based company 4U Fresh Produce Ltd to operate aroundthe-clock was voted down at a planning meeting in Beverley, despite being recommended for approval by council planning officers.

An original decision on the application, which attracted 366 objections, was deferred for a site visit last month, but councillors voted by five to two to reject it this time, citing the “phenomenal” noise impact on those living nearby.

Alison Goddard, who lives just 220 yards from the site with her 10-year-old son, said: “I can’t walk out of my house because of all of the HGV traffic so it’s a relief for me that at least it is limited to the daytime.

“This is just one of the battles, the war continues with this because it’s going to be back. This has been going on for well over 20 years with this site constantly expanding and pushing the boundaries.”

4U Fresh Produce was recently established as a new enterprise, after it bought out the former M&F Produce Ltd business, which went into administration in March 2017.
