Chamber of Commerce’s backing for city’s dementia appeal charity

-

YORK TEACHING Hospital’s Dementia Appeal charity will be supported by the local Chamber of Commerce over the next few months.

York & North Yorkshire Chamber’s President, Bridget Davies, selected the appeal as her nominated charity for her second year of office, which runs to July 2019.

Lucy Clegg, fundraising manager for the charity, said: “With an aging population, the demand to provide a dementiafriendly environment and specialised care is increasing, so we are grateful for all support.

“We’re delighted that Bridget has chosen to support our appeal during her second year of office.

“The Dementia Appeal funds things chosen by the clinical staff to support patients living with dementia during their stay in our hospitals.”

The chamber’s main fundraising opportunity comes via the annual dinner in April.

Held at the National Railway Museum in York, the event has attracted the likes of broadcaster Jeremy Vine in recent years.

Bridget, inset, who runs Minster FM radio station, said: “I’m sure that most people know someone who is affected – directly or otherwise – by dementia in some way.

“It’s sad when this happens and we all want our loved ones to have the best possible care and support as they get older.

“I know that Lucy and her team are doing a great job and so I’m confident that this is a worthy cause to get behind.” More information about the appeal can be found at https:// www.yorkhospitals.nhs.uk/ dementiaappeal/ or by phoning 01904 724521.
