New Royal double act debuts with view of capital
WITH A panoramic, rooftop view of the capital laid on and a robot with whom to shake hands, it was a Royal visit that ticked many of the usual boxes.
But the opening of a new suite of facilities at King’s College, London, marked a significant first for the family – the debut joint appearance outside the Palace walls of the Queen and the Duchess of Cambridge.
As the two of them toured Bush House, Kate could be heard describing the cityscape as “impressive”. Shaking the robot’s hand, she said: “Very nice to meet you”, before she and her grandmother-inlaw met students from the Entrepreneurship Institute, which supports students.

Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall held talks with two leading figures from the life of Barbados, as their tour of the Caribbean continued. Charles and Camilla met Dame Sandra Mason, who as Governor General is the Queen’s representative on the island, and Mia Mottley, its first woman prime minister.
But the tour threatened to be overshadowed by paparazzi pictures, published overseas, of the Royal couple relaxing on a beach on their day off. The Prince is seen in flowerprint trunks while his wife is in a dark blue one-piece costume. Meanwhile, pop superstar Lionel Richie has been named as the first global ambassador of the Prince’s Trust. The singer was in Barbados for the announcement.
