Heads switch posts to improve learning skills
HEADTEACHERS ACROSS one of the region’s largest trusts have switched posts for the start of the summer term under a scheme to boost learning and ambitions.
The Ebor Academy Trust has 22 schools across North Yorkshire and the Humber.
Now, as part of a project to ensure senior leaders’ career ambitions can be met – while staying within the ‘family of schools’ – they are trialling a new way of working. Five headteachers have switched position this month, to start the summer term in a new school.
“It means staff can progress their careers in a supportive environment in different schools within our trust whilst still maintaining links and continuing professional networks and relationships,” said Richard Ludlow, Ebor’s chief executive.
In January, Mr Ludlow took on additional responsibilities for improving education across a large part of the north of England with an expanded remit as sub-regional lead for the East Midlands, South Yorkshire and Humber Teaching Schools Alliance. The new initiative within Ebor, he said, could be of huge benefit to schools and teachers, bringing in fresh thinking as well as inspiring leaders.
“This brings welcome new ideas into the classroom and fresh thinking which will enrich our children’s education,” he said.
The trust’s schools, mainly primary, are based across York, Selby, the East Riding, Humber and coast. Two more schools, in Hessle, are set to join in July.
Caroline Towler is moving from Brotherton and Byram Community Primary Academy to Tadcaster Primary Academy; Donna Bedford is moving from Tadcaster to Staynor Hall Community Primary Academy in Selby; Tim Jolly is moving from Staynor Hall to Braeburn Primary and Nursery Academy in Scarborough; and Bev Fletcher is moving from Camblesforth to Brotherton and Byram. Dave Card will be head of school at Camblesforth Community Primary Academy, from being deputy head at Staynor Hall.
