A War of the Worlds fan

LIKE many fans of classic science fiction stories, I’m looking forward to the BBC’s adaptation of the HG Wells novel The War Of The Worlds.

It seems to be the screen adaptation that is closest to the book so far, although not spot on, as interviewer Gemma Dunn and star Eleanor Tomlinson, suggest (The Yorkshire Post, November 13), as it is set in Edwardian England, whereas the novel was published in 1897, towards the end of Queen Victoria’s reign.
