The so-called Lib Dems

-

From: Gordon Lawrence, Sheffield.

HAVING received a leaflet on Monday morning urging my family to vote for the party headed by Ms Swinson, I could not agree more with the analysis by Sally Wheatley in

The Yorkshire Post that morning (November 18) of the political stance now adopted by the so-called Lib Dems.

I searched through the leaflet’s text looking for the word “Brexit”, but I searched in vain. I can only assume it’s calculated policy to avoid the term, although the Lib Dems do seem to have wider problems with their vocabulary as exemplified in their understanding of words like “Liberal” and “Democrat”.

It was Nick Clegg, the Deputy PM, who reneged on student loans. He also cancelled his promise to hold a referendum on the EU, but when the eventual Referendum came in 2016 he promised to support the people’s decision whoever won it. They reneged on this in the 2017 election hoping to gather the residue of Remainer votes since Labour, in its manifesto, had agreed to accept the referendum result. Swinson and her party now callously ignore the 2016 ‘people’s vote’ altogether as though it never happened. And it amazes me that the media, especially on TV, rarely pursues this total injustice.
