Volunteers sought for appeals panels

Yorkshire Post - - EDUCATION ON MONDAY -

FOR PARENTS it is one of the most fraught times of their child’s schooling, but now Bradford Council is looking for volunteers to help the admission process run more smoothly.

Traditionally many schools rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted are oversubscribed and that means that each year a number of pupils are unsuccessful in securing their first choice place.

When that happens, parents have a right to challenge the decision, with a School Admission Appeals Panel reviewing each one on a case by case basis. All panels are independent of local authorities and school governing bodies, but the one which operates in Bradford needs fresh volunteers.

Comprehensive training is provided and volunteer panel members can claim travel expenses. Anyone interested can call 01274 434287, or email tracey.sugden@ bradford.gov.uk
