Views sought on vision to meet district’s ‘needs and aspirations’
A BLUEPRINT for development across a North Yorkshire district spanning the next two decades will prove to be key in meeting the “needs and aspirations” of the public, a senior councillor has claimed.
Selby District Council has unveiled proposals for its long-term plans to build homes and key services such as schools, as well as enhancing the economy by attracting major new enterprises.
The public is being urged to take part in a consultation on the document, which provides an over-arching vision for the Selby district up until 2040.
Their views will help shape the so-called Local Plan, which details the authority’s approach to development.
The council’s executive member with responsibility for place shaping, Coun Richard Musgrave, said: “Nothing’s been decided at this early stage and your views and comments are therefore very important in shaping the contents of the emerging Local Plan.
“It’s really important that this plan reflects the needs and aspirations of people and businesses already in the district, which is why we’re asking for views at this early stage.”
The Local Plan is seen as key to ensure development is co-ordinated to the best sites across the Selby district while supported by the necessary infrastructure, as well as protecting the environment.
The six-week public consultation on the initial stages of the Local Plan will begin on Friday, and the council has asked for comments to be submitted ahead of a deadline at 5pm on Friday, March 6.
A series of drop-in sessions are being staged across the district with the first session due to be held at Selby Library on Monday next week from 2pm until 7pm.
More sessions will be held in Tadcaster, Barlby, and Sherburnin-Elmet in the coming weeks.
