Children bowled over by their royal waitress

-

ADDING BOWLS of fruit to a trolley laden with cereals, the Duchess of Cambridge turned waitress yesterday to a roomful of hungry children.

Kate also revealed that more than 100,000 people had so far completed her ambitious survey on early learning.

She wheeled her breakfast trolley into a south London classroom during a visit to a social enterprise-run nursery and pre-school, saying she wanted to “hear society’s views about raising the next generation”.

After bringing in breakfast for the children, she joined three little girls as they sat down at tiny tables to eat – and Kate took a shine to three-year-old Lucy, stroking her arm and leaning forward as she asked her what she wanted.

Her month-long survey, called Five Big Questions On The Under Fives, was launched last week and aims to spark debate on how to create the best foundations for children to thrive.

Kate said during the visit: “I’m so happy that over 100,000 people from all across the UK have already completed it, and I can’t wait to see the results.”

The Duchess has spent eight years working on early years issues and has convened a steering group of experts, Her online poll is thought to be the biggest survey of its kind.

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cornwall took part in a dance class lead by volunteers at the Cornhill Centre in Banbury. Camilla is the president of the Royal Voluntary Service.

Kate said she wanted to ‘hear society’s views about raising the next generation’.
