Back at its best... Kevin Keegan’s E-Type Jag gets classic makeover

-

HE WAS known for his speed and grace on the pitch – and now it seems Kevin Keegan cuts quite a dash on the road as well.

The Doncaster-born former England player and manager was a fan of E-Type Jaguars, a model often described as the most beautiful ever created.

This 1972 model – which fell into disrepair – has now been restored by a specialist company.

Keegan, 69, who began his career at Scunthorpe United before finding fame at clubs including Liverpool, SV Hamburg and Newcastle United, had the car from new.

But its current owner – an unnamed person in Middlesex – wanted the car to be restored to its production line best.

The Series 3 V12 roadster has been repainted in its original Willow Green colour with biscuit-coloured leather and a mohair hood.

It has been painstakingly transformed by E-Type UK, a specialist restorer in Kent. The owner of the E-Type has not revealed its worth, but a similar model could fetch £200,000 or more.

It was once the car was fully stripped down that the full extent of the bodywork repair became apparent, as the Roadster had been subject to previous poor crash repairs.

Final touches were made to the re-chromed exterior brightwork before fitting a range of minor upgrades – such as adding a period-style number plate, side mirrors, and steel wheels.

Stainless-steel sports exhausts and a 14-inch MotorLita steering wheel were added.

E-Type UK’s founder Marcus Holland said: “We are particularly proud of this restoration and delighted with the way that it looks after spending time in our workshop.”
