THE YORKSHIRE-BASED surveillance firm Synectics will play a significant role in protecting an oilfield in the Middle East.

Synectics has snapped up a new contract with a value in excess of £1m to provide surveillance systems for a major offshore oilfield development.

The project – for Saudi Aramco’s $6bn development of the Berri offshore oilfield on Saudi Arabia’s east coast – will be implemented with Synectics’ longterm partner General Dynamics.

It will be delivered “substantially” during the financial year ending November 30, 2020, Synectics said.

In a statement, the Sheffieldbased company said: “This contract will see Synectics’ marketleading COEX C3000 TriMode camera stations with thermal imaging technology deliver safety monitoring and surveillance for 10 offshore production platforms.”

Paul Webb, the chief executive of Synectics, said: “This is an important contract win for Synectics in what continues to be a difficult market sector.

“General Dynamics is one of our most valued partners, and this contract award reflects Synectics’ extensive industry experience as well as our commitment to long-term customer relationships.

“We value the trust customers place in our people and technology. This has been especially important over the last few months when the expertise and dedication of our teams has been invaluable.

Together we have strived to provide the services and support required by all our customers, while ensuring everyone remains safe.”

Synectics said its board had continued to monitor the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on its customers, business and employees.

The statement added: “Management continues to review its plan daily, following all relevant government guidelines.

“All the company’s operating sites in the UK have carried out formal risk assessments and put in place additional measures, where necessary, to ensure safe operation.

“Similar exercises have been conducted in overseas operations, with measures adapted as necessary to comply with local government regulations and guidance.”

The company will announce its unaudited interim results for the six months ended May 31, 2020 on July 14, 2020.

The oilfield agreement is the latest in a series of contracts secured by Synectics this year.

Last month, Synectics announced the award of two new multi-year contracts with existing long-term customers.

Synectics’ Systems division has been awarded a new five-year multi-million-dollar support contract by a major casino operator for its flagship resort in Asia, which was an extension of an existing long-term relationship.

Synectics’ IMS division was also recently awarded a new three-year framework agreement by Stagecoach, the UK’s largest bus and coach operator.

The contract is an extension of Synectics’ 18-year relationship with Stagecoach and covers the delivery of on-vehicle surveillance systems and maintenance support for their fleet of more than 8,000 vehicles.

Speaking at the time, Mr Webb said: “Many of our customers view us as their preferred longterm partner.”
