Morrisons offers matchday food and drink as football returns

-

BRADFORD-BASED SUPERMARKET chain Morrisons is partnering with Deliveroo to offer matchday food and drink deliveries to tie in with the restart of the football season.

As Premier League football returns today, followed by the Championship this weekend, fans will be able to order burgers, pies, crisps and chips – as well as beer and cider – to give them the matchday food experience they have been missing, in the comfort of their own home.

Orders can be placed through the Deliveroo app or website, which will see them delivered to customers’ doorstep in as little as 30 minutes – or just in time for kick-off.

Customers can hand-pick different foods and drinks to build a matchday ‘bundle’ to their taste.

For example, those that have been missing a pie and a pint before kick-off could get a Morrisons Steak and Ale Pie, Maris Piper Chunky Chips and a big bottle of Stella Artois.

Football is due to continue behind closed doors for the remainder of the season, with other sports such as rugby league and cricket due to restart later in the summer.

Tim Cullum, senior buying manager at Morrisons, said: “We want to provide matchday food to fans in the comfort of their own home and with no need to queue.

“We’ll be delivering the first pies and pints just in time ready for the big match kick off between Arsenal and Manchester City.”

Morrisons first announced a partnership with Deliveroo in April to support customers who did not want to leave their home and wanted essential items delivered to their doorstep on-demand.

The service is now available from more than 130 Morrisons stores across the UK and covers one in four households (6.8 million).

All orders placed through Deliveroo have a £4.50 delivery charge and 49p service fee.

The supermarket chain, along with its competitors, has been widely praised for its work in keeping the nation fed, having hired thousands of additional staff to cope with demand.
