Make the most of the sunshine, it’s forecast to rain this weekend
YORKSHIRE IS braced for a heatwave as temperatures are set to climb to 29C today and tomorrow.
But some parts of the country are set to be even hotter, ant the warmest day of the year could be recorded as the temperature climbs towards 34C in the south of the UK today.
But there are warnings of thundery showers in Yorkshire on Friday and more rain is expected over the weekend. Forecasters say today and tomorrow will be the hottest days of the week in Yorkshire with unbroken sunshine.
Yorkshire’s coast will be a little cooler, but there will still be temperatures of 22C and 21C today and tomorrow.
Today’s top temperature in Yorkshire is expected to reach 29C in South Yorkshire.
Met Office forecaster Luke Miall said: “We’ve got high pressure to the south-east of the UK over the next few days which is going to be drawing our air up from the continent, and the warmer climates of France and Spain.”
The hottest day so far was 28.9C last month, and Mr Miall said: “It’s likely (today) will beat that in the South.”
He added: “Although it’s fairly uncommon to get 34C in June at the moment, it doesn’t look like we’re going to break any of the records.”
Things will start to cool off for the weekend, and Mr Miall warned: “By Saturday most places will be seeing the fresher air coming across for the weekend.
“So although it might still be humid at times, I think generally temperatures will be falling below heatwave levels.”
The heaviest rain in Yorkshire is due to be on Friday but it is expected to still be warm at 27C.
