Charity fundraiser Capt Tom signs film deal for his life story
THE LIFE story of the centenarian NHS fundraiser Captain Sir Tom Moore is to be filmed, following a bidding war among prospective producers.
The Second WorldWar veteran from Keighley, who raised more than £ 32m by walking laps of his garden, will be the subject of a drama to be shot next year.
“I don’t know of any 100- yearold actors but I’m sure Michael Caine or Anthony Hopkins could do a wonderful job if they were prepared to age up,” he said.
The film will draw on Captain Sir Tom’s military career but will focus on his “close relationship with his family and explore how his strength, wisdom and humour changed the way they viewed the world”.
The movie willbe madeby Fred Films and Powder Keg Pictures, whose credits together include Fisherman’s Friends, about Cornish seamen who signed a record deal, and the romantic comedy Finding Your Feet, starring Imelda Staunton.
The writers, Nick Moorcroft and Meg Leonard, said in a joint statement: “This is a story about
the power of the human spirit and Captain Sir Tom personifies that.”
Captain Sir Tom’s daughter, Hannah Ingram- Moore, said the family were “big fans” of the writers’ previous work. “We received so many offers but what it boiled down to was trust. We hope that our story connects with audiences in the same way their previous films have done,” she said.
Producer James Spring added: “We are privileged that Tom and his family have entrusted us to tell their story.”
