Plans for diving centre and clubhouse on coast

-

PLANS HAVE been submitted for a specialist diving centre and entertainment complex, on a fast eroding stretch of coast in East Yorkshire.

Newton Farming Ltd wants to convert barns close to the cliff edge near the village of Aldbrough into a diving centre and a clubhouse with car parking.

A nearby slipway will be used to launch the dive boats from the beach using a caterpillar tractor.

Documents online state: “This development proposal seeks to upcycle a redundant part of Grange Farm, part of the Grange Farm/ Glebe Farm farmstead, in the ownership and control of Newton Farming Limited, a very well established rural business enterprise headquartered at East Newton, but with supporting land holdings at both Tansterne and Cowden.”

There is already a holiday park onsite and the proposal will “widen the current tourism offering through the provision of a deep sea diving experience”.

The barn, earmarked for the clubhouse, will be fitted out with recycled shipping containers, which will act as kitchen, bar and toilets.

The plans state: “The column free central hall is an ideal space for wedding receptions, dancefloors, banquet and wedding ceremonies. Integrating two large transparent barn doors on each gable end will bring dramatic levels of morning and evening light capturing dramatic wedding sunsets through the barn.”

When the land eventually succumbs to coastal erosion the whole of the facility can be taken down and removed from the site.

Plans for a diving centre in one of the barns were approved in 2011.
