Taylor’s in contention for a swift injury return

- PLYMOUTH ARGYLE V DONCASTER ROVERS LEAGUE ONE STUART RAYNER

WINGER JON Taylor could make a swift return from injury for Doncaster Rovers at Plymouth Argyle – but Darren Moore will take things slower with Taylor Richards.

Taylor was injured blocking a cross nine minutes into Rovers’ 2- 1 defeat to Crewe Alexandra at the weekend, but was straight back into training on Monday reporting no ill- effects. By contrast, Brighton and Hove Albion loanee Richards is struggling to shake of a niggling injury.

“We’re pleased to say that Jon joined in training on Monday,” reported manager Moore.

“We’ll just make sure there’s no reactions and if that’s the case then he’ll be back in the squad.”

Richards, though, will not make the long trip south and with Matt Smith and James Coppinger as alternatives in the hole, there is no reason to rush him.

“Taylor Richards is still nursing his niggle and we think that might take a bit longer,” said Moore. “We’re just going day by day with him.

“We’re not going to take any chances with him.”

Meanwhile, chief executive Gavin Baldwin has warned supporters the club’s “long- term position will once again be under threat” if fans continue to be kept out of stadia much longer and a bailout is not forthcoming. English professional clubs have not been allowed to admit supporters since the coronavirus lockdown in the spring. Leagues One and Two abandoned last season because it was not financially viable, but started 2020- 21 late in September on the understanding that the Government planned to open the gates in October. They changed their mind in late September.

“The decision not to allow fans in will hurt us by at least £ 200,000 through lost money from ticket sales and that’s only until January, if the decision not to allow fans to return continues beyond January it could be over £ 400,000 we have to find,” wrote Baldwin in an open letter to fans.

Doncaster’s December 15 match against Swindon Town will now kick- off at 7pm.
