Grateful thanks for care given by professional NHS staff

- From: Paul Morley, Ribblesdale Estate, Long Preston, Skipton.

ALL I have been hearing for the last year is moans about the inefficiency of the NHS and serious illnesses being neglected due to the Covid pandemic.

All I can conclude is that my experience took place in a parallel universe – from contacting my GP in September to having an operation to sort out prostate cancer on New Year’s Eve the whole process was quick and efficient.

From my GP in Settle through Airedale hospital, St Luke’s and the Royal Infirmary at Bradford, from the consultants and surgeons down to the ward staff I have been treated with alacrity, professionalism, empathy, warmth, kindness and even considering the seriousness of the situation some much- needed humour.

Even with all the pressures and dangers of the current situation, everyone still had a smile and words of encouragement for someone who knows he’s not the best of patients. To all of you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You won’t be forgotten.

INSTRUCTIONS from the Government to cancel the second dose of vaccine given to the over- 80s who already have an appointment for the second jab is a U- turn too far.

GPs have spent many hours working out the most vulnerable in their practices, many of whom have been shielding since March 2020. The vaccine has been their one hope of going out of the house feeling somewhat safe. Others have had to arrange for a relative or carer to take them to the injection site, some have been reluctantly persuaded that the safety of such a quickly developed vaccine is proven. If Pfizer approves the effectiveness of their vaccine to be used in the proposed new dose way, surely time should be given to adjust to the new schedule?

THE first politician of any party colour, who stops saying that the great majority are doing the right thing, but starts telling the idiot minority and the deniers, to stop being stupid, arrogant, ignorant and selfish, might get my vote next time around. But I don’t expect any of them to risk criticising any of their beloved constituents and their votes.

IT puzzles me that TV reporters have to stand out in the street on a cold dark night to deliver a report on Covid when there is no indication of what town they are in.
