Mr President, you have a war to win with China

YORKSHIRE INDUSTRIALIST Sir Andrew Cook has written an open letter to Joe Biden ahead of the President-elect’s inauguration in Washington.

Mr President-Elect,

Perhaps not without question, you have nonetheless been elected President of the United States of America and are preparing to enter the Oval Office and take charge of what remains, just, the most powerful nation in the world.

Here are some words of advice to help you keep it that way. Firstly, China. I have long predicted that the next Great War will be between China and the US, and I have no reason to change this view.

Appeasement won’t prevent it – appeasement did nothing to stop Hitler’s advance. China understands only raw power, and the US is the only great power capable of standing up to its voracious appetite for territory and natural resources.

Just pause and reflect for a moment on how China has got to where it is today. Cleverly, it began its advance by using its vast reserves of semi-slave labour to addict the West to cheap Chinese-made goods. Western governments loved this – it kept the electorate happy and inflation low.

Next, using the immense reserves of dollars so amassed, China started to buy up the West’s assets, among other means using its ‘‘Belt and Road’’ initiative as a front for economic penetration of every continent. All the while, China built furiously and shoddily – its concrete reinforcing bar is suspect, and the same goes for its cement – but it built fast, and the occasional disaster can be quickly hushed up by the omnipresent Chinese Communist Party in true oneparty state fashion.

In parallel, as China built its industrial powerhouse with scant regard for the environment, it pulled off a cunning plan, wresting Hong Kong from Britain in a bloodless coup.

At the stroke of a pen, four million English-speaking and industrious Chinese men and women were delivered on a plate to Beijing to further fuel its ‘‘Long March’’ to global domination.

Note this well, dear Joe, when the appeasers bend your ear, and note too that China has sent hundreds of thousands of its sons and daughters to England and the US to be educated, and some of them work in global institutions to influence policy and direction.

Beijing has helped finance this with its billions, assisted further by its useful friends among the West’s wealthy and powerful.

Pause now, Joe, and take a look at your opposite number in the Forbidden City.

President Xi isn’t the doddering geriatric party placeman which China has traditionally selected to run the country. Got that, Joe? Now look in the mirror. You see what I mean? You understand why we are all so worried?

And while you’re about it, ask yourself how it happened that a potent virus that was first reported in China spread through the unprepared and unsuspecting Western democracies, ruining their economies and terrifying their populations? Accident? Coincidence? Hmm.

Enough of China. Let’s look inwards at those 70-odd million Americans who didn’t vote for you. Hard-working men and women for whom your predecessor’s measures against Chinese imports created large numbers of blue-collar jobs and restored a measure of confidence and self-respect to ‘‘backwoods’’ USA.

Builders of small businesses that want nothing more than to get on with their lives in peace, protected by the law from looting and riots, and paying their taxes with a measure of confidence

that their money won’t be squandered by a profligate and woke-influenced government.

Joe, you are 78 years old. Some disingenuous people helped put you in power. They will try to control you, to push you to do stupid things, things you would never have considered when you were younger.

Forty years ago you stood foursquare side by side with Britain as it fought to rid the Falklands of a fascist occupation.

Today, the fascist threat is from China, backed up (although they would never admit it) by far-left elements on college campuses and in the media. You need to stand up to these people, Joe, as did your democrat predecessors Franklin D Roosevelt and John F Kennedy.

Donald Trump does not have a monopoly on making America great again. You have four years to complete the job. And remember, when the chips are down, Britain will always be with you.

Your friend, Sir Andrew Cook.
