Schindler’s Terriers time ended by injury

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN head coach Carlos Corberan has confirmed that it is unlikely that captain Christopher Schindler will play for the club again this season due to the knee injury he sustained before Christmas.

The German, who scored the penalty to take Town to the Premier League in 2017, is out of contract in the summer and is widely expected to leave the club at the end of the season.

The latest update regarding his fitness would mean that the popular defender, injured in the home win over QPR on December 5, will have played his final game for Town, in all likelihood.

On Schindler, 30, who has been linked to a return to his homeland with Nuremburg, Corberan said: “It is very difficult to see him playing for us again this season.

“He has been a big player for us.

He was part of the team that got promoted to the Premier League and continued into the Championship with us and we had hoped he would be able to play with us more this season.”

Meanwhile, Town are waiting on scan news regarding recent signing Oumar Niasse who suffered a freak groin injury in a training ground game – shortly after signing a short-term deal for the rest of the season.

The ex-Hull City player will have a second scan on Monday before the prognosis is revealed, with Niasse yet to feature for the club – and his chances of doing so could hinge on the verdict.

Much more welcome developments this week have seen influential forward Josh Koroma return to training with the firstteam group – for this first time since he picked up a serious hamstring injury in the win over Sheffield Wednesday on December 8.
