Man dead and second injured in shootings
A MURDER investigation has been launched by police after a man was shot dead and another injured in Sheffield.
Officers from South Yorkshire Police were called to Clough Road near Bramall Lane at about 9.40pm on Saturday where they discovered a 30-year-old man with life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 31-year-old man was found with minor gunshot wounds and then taken to hospital.
Detective Chief Inspector Michael Hakin, who is involved in the inquiry, confirmed yesterday that a murder investigation had been launched following a “firearms incident” in Clough Road.
He said that the investigation was in its early stages, inquiries were continuing “at pace”, and a “significant number” of officers remained in the neighbourhood. He also confirmed that no arrests had been made and yesterday made an appeal for information. Det Chief Insp Hakin said: “I would urge anyone with information about what happened to come forward. If you think you might have witnessed the incident or if you saw or heard anything suspicious, please speak to us.
“I am acutely aware that this incident may be distressing to the local community.
“Please be assured that we have deployed additional resources to the area, and our specialist team continues to carry out inquiries to locate those responsible.”
