Postponement adds to Tigers’ woe
You wait 33 years for a first Premiership fixture at your home stadium, and then bad weather forces a postponement.
Sheffield Tigers were last night due to make their belated Premiership debut, 14 months after they should have done, and 33 years since their last home Premiership fixture, by welcoming Peterborough Panthers to Owlerton Stadium (7.30pm). But it was postponed due to heavy rain.
Their first home Premiership fixture since 1988 is now due to be held on Thursday, June 3.
Tigers co-owner Damien Bates said: “After over 500 days with no racing the wait goes on. I cannot believe it. We’re all absolutely gutted about it.
“We’ve gone to great expense to get everything ready and it’s been a lengthy process to get us back on track.
“We now have to wait another two weeks.”
