Prince visits Bafta HQ to learn of its support to British TV and film
THE DUKE of Cambridge, who is president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, visited its group headquarters in central London.
His appearance was to mark the reopening of its headquarters and to learn how the refurbished building will help to increase the support to British television and film.
The academy provides for young people building careers in the film, games and television industries.
He met Gentleman Jack star
Suranne Jones during the visit. William also met recipients of bursaries and discussed the barriers to progression within the world of film.
Prince William was without his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, as yesterday she was visiting the Shout mental-health text service in London.
William said: “I am hugely proud of Bafta’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that young talent from all walks of life are given every possible opportunity to build and develop successful careers in the film, games and television industries.”
He added that the redevelopment of Bafta’s home in Piccadilly had “created fantastic new learning spaces to ensure that future generations can receive the support they need to thrive”.
Earlier this week, Bafta announced it will not be giving out honorary prizes at its 2022 film and games awards but will do so for TV as it implements new vetting processes following last year’s Noel Clarke controversy.
Clarke was accused by 20 women of sexual misconduct after receiving an award – claims which he denies.
