Victim tells of ordeal at hands of depraved city nurse

-

A WOMAN sexually assaulted by a Sheffield hospital nurse who filmed up the gowns of unconscious patients has spoken of her ordeal as she welcomed his jail sentence.

Paul Grayson, 51, from Woodstock Road, Nether Edge, Sheffield, videoed four women as they recovered from surgery at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. He was jailed for 12 years this week after admitting 23 sex offences.

The nurse, who a judge said was fixated by sex and had brought shame on his profession, also recorded five female colleagues using the bathroom.

A number of patients and staff at the hospital who were filmed by Grayson have now appointed lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to access specialist support.

One woman, who was filmed while recovering from surgery and who cannot be named for legal reasons, said she had only found out when she was approached by police.

“It’s almost impossible to put into words the emotions and anger I felt at this point,” she said. “To think I was taken advantage of in the cruellest way imaginable is devastating.”

Speaking of her struggle to come to terms with what happened, she added: “I’m just so glad that Grayson is now behind bars and hopefully patients are now safe.”

Irwin Mitchell lawyer Joe Matchett, helping those affected access specialist support and therapies, said: “They have shown bravery in coming forward. It’s vital that survivors of abuse don’t suffer in silence.”

Grayson was arrested in December 2020 and immediately suspended from work, said Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Royal Hallamshire.

He pleaded guilty to 14 charges including voyeurism, sexual assault, upskirting and one of taking indecent images of a child.

He was told he would be subject to an extended licence period of four years when he is eventually released.
