Distillery gets into spirit of World Gin Day by offering local discount
A YORKSHIRE distiller and retailer marked World Gin Day this weekend with a series of promotions.
York Gin put everything in its two shops on sale.
The company knocked 10 per cent off everything for the whole World Gin Day weekend – from first thing on Friday to the end of yesterday.
World Gin Day has been celebrated since 2009, with events around the world celebrating gin – in a G&T, in cocktails or neat.
World Gin Day events happen in over 30 countries – with the details of events available on the World Gin Day website.
The brains behind World Gin Day is Emma Stokes, a London gin blogger known as Gin Monkey who is originally from Leeds.
York Gin co-founder Emma Godivala said: “World Gin Day is the Christmas Day of the gin world.
“It’s a huge worldwide celebration.
“We wanted to make a splash this year – so we gave everyone the chance to enjoy some gin bargains over the whole weekend.”
York Gin is planning to launch a new distillery in Coppergate.
When open it will house an interactive visitor attraction, a high-end cocktail bar, and will actually make gin in a copper and steel still.
It will also offer gin tasting, gin making and cocktail making classes. A shop will sell the full York Gin range.
York Gin Company’s range of gins have won gold medals at the world’s top spirits competitions.
Bosses at York Gin are busy creating the three-floor attraction in the old Boots store.
The artificial ceiling has been removed, revealing a ten-metre, cathedral-like structure.
The Distillery will be on three floors, with the shop, gin experience and distillery on the huge first floor the 200-cover bar on the second floor and space for classes and experiences on the third floor.
The Distillery is set to create around 10-12 new full time jobs.
