Rob Burrow’s sisters hold fundraising ball

-

THE sisters of Rob Burrow hope to raise £100,000 for charity at an extra-special fundraising event featuring a series of celebrities this weekend.

The Burrow Strictly Ball will be held at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens on Saturday.

Money raised will be equally split between the Leeds Hospitals Charity for the MND Centre, the MND Association and the Rob Burrow Discretionary Trust.

Former Leeds Rhinos, England and Great Britain scrum-half Burrow, inset, won eight Super League titles during his professional career.

He is now a passionate campaigner and fundraiser for people with motor neurone disease – a condition with which he was diagnosed in 2019 – and was awarded a CBE in the New Year Honours list.

Ten well-known names, including West Yorkshire mayor Tracy Brabin, her Greater Manchester counterpart Andy Burnham, TV presenter Sam Nixon, comedian Billy Pearce and ex-Real Housewife of Cheshire Leanne Brown are just some of the names taking to the floor this weekend.

The event is being arranged by Burrow’s older sisters Jo Hartshorne and Claire Burnett.

The pair say the Strictly theme for the event is particularly appropriate as both sisters were involved in ballroom dancing from a young age and that is how Rob met his wife Lindsey.

“I danced with Lindsey as a partner in classes,” said Ms Hartshorne. “We had a presentation evening one time and that is when Rob first met his future wife – they were aged about

14. I don’t think he ever looked at another girl.”

Tickets are no longer on sale but there is still an opportunity to bid on a host of raffle prizes that have been donated for the event, including a day at Huddersfield’s Titanic Spa, a family pass to Yorkshire Wildlife Park and entry to Doncaster Racecourse Ladies Day.
