Eagles lose unbeaten run as Wakefield march on

WAKEFIELD Trinity inflicted the first Championsh­ip defeat on Sheffield Eagles after a 36-10 win.

Both sides had 100 per cent records ahead of Friday night’s game, but it was Trinity who came out on top.

Josh Griffin crossed to give the visitors the lead, Max Jowitt converting, but the Eagles were level with a Matty Dawson-Jones try, Cory Aston kicking the extras.

But Wakefield took control with tries from Luke Gale, Jowitt and Jay Pitts to make it 24-6 at halftime.

Trinity increased their advantage with converted tries from Ky Rodwell and Lachlan Walmsley, before Kris Welham replied with an Eagles try.

On Saturday, Dewsbury Rams let slip a 19-10 half-time lead to lose 38-21 against Toulouse.

Tries from Maxime Stefani and Mathieu Jussaume edged the French visitors in front, but Travis Corion replied on each occasion for the Rams.

The hosts took the lead with an Owen Restall try before Jacob Hookem kicked a drop goal.

But two tries, from Stefani and Olly Ashall-Bott, early in the second half turned the game on its head.

A Callum Turner penalty edged Dewsbury back in front, before Anthony Marion’s try once more gave Toulouse the lead. Jake Shorrocks and Damel Diakhate added late touchdowns.

Feathersto­ne Rovers beat Halifax Panthers 36-16.

Bradford Bulls returned from Swinton Lions with a 38-12 win, but Doncaster lost 16-14 at Widnes. York Knights were beaten 36-16 at home by Whitehaven and Barrow Raiders inflicted a 2414 defeat on Batley Bulldogs.

In League One, Hunslet beat Keighley Cougars 26-18.
