Jer Lane prove their Bradford Premier League credentials as they get better of New Farnley

- Bill Marshall CRICKET REPORTER

A MATCH in the Bradford Premier League was abandoned on Saturday because the umpires deemed the pitch to be unfit.

Hosts East Bierley opted to bowl against Carlton, who were 39-4 after 16.2 overs when the men in white coats had seen enough in their Division One clash.

Umpire Arthur Moore said: “The wicket looked dry, but every time the ball pitched it was taking a divot. Three of the wickets fell at my end and all three were due to the pitch.”

East Bierley fixture secretary Ray Davis said: “The umpires were too hasty and should have left it for an hour and see if it got better.”

Bankfoot may have wished that their match was abandoned as they were dismissed for just 28 at home to Batley, who took just 4.3 overs to knock off the runs in a 10-wicket victory. Muhammad Choudhry returned the outstanding analysis of 7-2-7-8.

In the Premier Division, it was a good day for Woodlands, who won by seven wickets at Bradford & Bingley, with Tom Clee scoring an unbeaten 50, while both New Farnley and Townville were defeated.

Improving Jer Lane won the toss at Lawns Lane and racked up 2949, their impressive total being based around an opening stand of 167 between Adal Islam (84) and Mosun Hussain (101).

Islam hit 11 fours and a six in his 103-ball stay, while Hussain was no slouch either, cracking 14 fours and a six in his 116-ball knock.

Islam then took over with the ball, dismissing openers Aidan Langley and Adam Ahmed and Kiwi Cameron Fletcher on the way to 3-30 as New Farnley subsided to 76-5.

First change Bhushan Talawadekar was not as economical as either Islam or new-ball partner

Ali, but he grabbed the important wickets of Ryan McKendry and Usman Arshad on his way to 4-71, New Farnley finishing on 212.

Newly-promoted Undercliffe are also proving that they belong in the top flight, scoring 206-9 (Oliver Hardaker 67) at Townville before dismissing the hosts for 67 in 25.3 overs, using only two bowlers, with Zeeshan Qasim taking 4-36 and Calum Fletcher 6-31.

In Yorkshire Premier League North, Castleford won a low-scoring encounter at home to Sheriff Hutton Bridge by 15 runs, with 20 wickets falling for just 151, former Yorkshire spinner David Wainwright opening the bowling for Cas to take 3-14.

York’s match at Sessay didn’t even start, while Clifton Alliance have jumped to third.

Bryn Llewellyn scored 51 before taking 4-11 as hosts Scarborough were rumbled by Clifton for just 87.

Sam Grant was also an allround star for the winners, scoring 46 in their 238-8 before bagging 3-19.

Harry Allinson (61) added 86 for the third wicket with Arjun Ramkumar (35) as Harrogate easily saw off the challenge of Woodhouse Grange, Jack Shutt then taking 4-29 and Matthew Stewart 3-27 as the visitors were back in the pavilion for 126 to lose by 91 runs.

Alec Drury hit 92 and Mark Goddard 57 as Driffield Town recovered from 68-5 in an 18-run victory over visitors Easingwold.

Stamford Bridge showed grit to beat Hull Zingari by three wickets – their first win of the season and points of the season, but they remain bottom.

In the Airedale & Wharfedale League Premier Division, Otley defeated hosts Adel by three wickets.

Rawdon are third after captain Joe Smith (3-37 and 59) played a key role in their six-wicket victory at Tong Park Esholt, aided by Tom Watson (77no), who helped him add 137.

?? ?? ON TARGET: David Wainwright took 3-14 for Castleford in a low-scoring Yorkshire Premier North encounter against Sheriff Hutton Bridge.
