COMFORT FROM LOLA

- Amanda Lane

In 2020, we were getting visited from the ginger cat who came from next door. It started coming for food and would come inside.

I found out in March 2020 that I had cancer and was having radiotherapy each day.The ginger cat would come round at 6am, stay with me until I went for my radiotherapy, and would wait until I got home so it could stay by my side.

The neighbour said we could keep the cat. She thought it was a boy, but it was, in fact, a girl, so we got her neutered and vaccinated. Her name is Lola and she became an indoor cat. She will be two this year.

After a big operation in October, they said the cancer had completely gone but I found out in January that the cancer had spread. I’ve just finished two courses of chemotherapy, but the cancer has spread to my brain too.

Lola sleeps with me and is by my side all the time. My 16-year-old daughter loves her very much and even my husband loves her too. She has the run of the garden, but won’t use the cat flap. Lola is wonderful and is a right little character. I am in the hospice for symptom control. It breaks our heart being away from each other.

Lola is wonderful...
