YOUR CAT QUESTION
We asked our online fans the following community question: is your cat a lap cat or do they prefer to appreciate you from a distance?
Charlotte Louise Bateman: My little girl used to be, then she stopped, which hurt me. However, last year, while I was on furlough, she got used to me being in the house all the time and started again. Now, I can’t sit on the sofa without her falling asleep on my legs, or on my side if I’m laying on the sofa. We nap together and she gets all snuggled up to me.
Vickey
Frewing:
My youngest sleeps on me every night. I’ve tried to keep her off before I go to sleep, but when I wake up, she’s there!
Amanda
Griffiths:
My beautiful baby boy, Prince Albert, has always been a lap cat. When we originally went to choose him, at eight weeks old, from his original owner, he climbed up on to my body and fell asleep on my shoulder, so he actually chose us.
Pauline White: She will sit on my lap, especially if I am reading — or my hip as in this photo. She will sit on my side when I’m in bed after paddling away but that is usually around 3.30am!
Mazzie Cauchi: My Luna isn’t a lap cat, she’s more of a snuggle right into your leg cat! It’s all on her terms; sometimes she wants a cuddle and sometimes she doesn’t!
Cathryn Torode: Socially distanced on the other side of the sofa. She is a rescue that we got in November so we are giving her time.
Joanna Louisa: Gaia, my Maine Coon, on her Daddy’s lap.
Karen Tallant: Shelby is now three and it’s only in the past six months that he has become a lap cat. It has taken lots of patience and Dreamies to get to this stage!
Sylvia Collingwood: At 18, my cat has been an ardent non-lap cat and no amount of attempted bribery with his favourite treats is going to change that, sadly. Friends used to say he’ll mellow as he gets older but he remains as stubborn and independent as ever. Two paws on my knee is as far as it goes while reaching out for the desired treat.
