Your Cat

RSPCA’s top tips

-

Each cat is different, so think carefully about your cat’s personality before travelling.

It’s vital that your cat is microchipped with your current contact details.

Your caravan or motorhome should be as comfortable as the cat’s home with everything your cat needs, including scratching posts, a litter tray, food, water, beds, and toys.

Cats need to feel in control so it’s important they have lots of hiding spaces within the vehicle where they can escape to if they feel the need.

Cats also love to be high up so make sure there’s a vertical space from where they can look out.

When you leave your cat in the vehicle, check that they are secure and safe, and never leave them on a warm day when temperatures can quickly rise to dangerous levels.

Think about whether your cat will be able to safely enjoy the outdoors when you’re away. With the right early experiences, some may walk on a harness or long lead, but most cats are likely to find being restrained in this way quite distressing.

We all like different past-times and travelling holidays are not for every cat — some would rather have a ‘staycation’ being looked after at home.
