Feline first aid
I want to learn a bit about feline first aid. What is the best way to deal with basic cuts and injuries? Is there anywhere you would recommend that can teach me this type of thing? What does my feline first aid kit need?

I am usually cautious advising people about first aid without being able to demonstrate how to use items appropriately and without seeing the wound — but I can give you a few tips!
Treatment of a wound depends on where and how painful it is, but smaller wounds and scratches (less than 1cm) often can be taken care of at home. I use the same first aid kit that I would for people. The items that are the most useful are: sterile saline pods, latex gloves, sterile gauze, and microporous tape.
My suggestion would be cleaning the area with copious amounts of sterile
fluid (the same one that we would get in our first aid kits). If the area is bleeding (provided that it is not more than a slow ooze), you can apply a gentle pressure with a sterile gauze for at least five minutes. If the blood seeps through the dressing, it needs to be checked by your vet. You can secure the dressing with a microporous tape but it is critical that the wound is examined quickly as too tight dressings can lead to serious damage. Avoid using antiseptic creams — cats are very sensitive to many of their components.
I would suggest that you ask at your vet practice if they run first aid courses for the clients and possibly participate in one.
