Your Cat

“He deserves a chance, like all cats!”

-

It was love at first sight when Your Cat reader Marilyn Young saw her beautiful Persian Louie (otherwise known as Lord Louie of Longniddry!) at Lothian Cat Rescue.

“There was just something about his grumpy little face,” Marilyn remembers. “We had had cats from them before so were allowed to take him home the same day. He was about four and we were told he had had two homes before ours, but they didn’t know a lot about his background. For two weeks there were no problems, but then he started going to the front door and weeing on the floor!

“He used his litter tray to poo and I took him out into the garden in his harness, but the front door was the place he chose to wee.The rescue centre and our vet suggested providing him with two trays with two different types of litter and we tried that, though obviously it was really inconvenient! He would be all right for a while and then it would start again. I put down adult incontinence mats so the floor didn’t get soaked. I always praise him when he goes in his tray and give him a treat. If he misbehaves — no treats! He runs off with a look of sheer mischief in his eyes!”

Marilyn and her husband aren’t willing to give up on Louie after just six months and are hoping he will settle down. “We wonder if he can detect the smell of the cats we had before, or if another cat is scaring him through the frosted glass,” she says. “We have thought of providing a bigger tray too. I love him to bits and don’t want him to have to move again. He deserves a chance, like all cats!”

Medical issues seem to put people off the most.
