Your Cat

APPEARANCE

-

The Sphynx has very distinctive type. The head is a modified wedge with rounded contours. It’s slightly longer than it is wide, with prominent cheekbones and distinctive whisker breaks, and prominent whisker pads and a strong rounded muzzle.

The skull is slightly rounded with a flat plane in front of the ears. The nose is straight with a slight break at the bridge of the nose and the chin is strong. The ears are large and wide at the base tapering to a rounded tip, and set at a slight angle, without furnishing. The eyes are large and lemon shaped, and slanted slightly upwards. They can be any colour.

The body is medium length, hard and muscular with a broad, rounded chest and abdomen. The rump is rounded and muscular. The legs are medium length, sturdy, and well-muscled, with the hind legs slightly longer than the front. The paws are oval, while the toes are long and slender, and the paw pads are thick, giving the appearance of walking on cushions. The tail should be long and slender, heavier at the base and tapering to the tip.

The body is warm and soft to the touch. There is a fine down on the skin almost imperceptible to the eye, giving the overall feel of a soft, warm chamois leather. They may have slightly thicker down on the bridge of the nose, back of the ears, and on the feet and tail.

The amount of coat may depend on climate, hormones, or genetics.

The coat texture creates a feeling of resistance when stroking the cat. Wrinkled skin may appear particularly around the muzzle, between the ears, and around the shoulders. Any whiskers and eyebrows should be short and sparse. Sphynx may be any colour or pattern. Kittens appear very wrinkly when young, but as they develop, they grow into their skin, maintaining some of the wrinkles, especially on the head.
