POISONOUS PLANTS

-

Q I know that lilies are poisonous to cats. Are there other house plants or cut flowers that are likely to do harm?

CELIA SAYS:

A Lilies are probably the most dangerous because even a tiny sprinkling of pollen can be poisonous if a cat licks it off its fur. The stamens should be cut off the flowers and they should be placed somewhere where the cat cannot get at them.

Other dangerous house plants are cyclamen, azaleas, the klanchoe succulent also known as flaming Katy, and daffodils, tulips, and hyacinths. Cats that nibble these plants can become really ill. Poinsettia is often said to be fatal but it is only mildly toxic if eaten.
